Work
Roles, and what each one covers
I joined IOTA Solutions as a senior engineer in June 2022 and became CTO in February 2026. The same month I co-founded Arlo, where I run the enterprise side.
CTO at IOTA Solutions
IOTA builds monitoring and security software for telecom, government, utilities, finance and healthcare organisations, including air-gapped sites: Trace9® for IT monitoring, Amygdala XDR® for the security operations centre and Thalamus for network access. I came up through the engineering team, so I run it from the inside.
- I own the three product lines end to end, Trace9®, Amygdala XDR® and Thalamus, all in production, and I oversee and work with sales, finance, HR and admin. Every engineering decision is mine to answer for; my five team leads run their areas day to day.
- Five team leads report to me: core engineering, DevOps and L1 to L3 support, the security product, infrastructure and internal IT. Across them, 20+ engineers.
- Since February 2026 I have run IOTA’s pre-sales and sales: customer engagements, leads, product demos, upsell and cross-sell, and travelling to customers.
- I architected and built IOTA’s product editions and licensing model, and I lead the work on Trace9 AI, the engine that learns baselines, forecasts availability and capacity, and flags anomalies.
- 165+ clients run products I’ve built and led, and Trace9® and Amygdala XDR® deployments monitor 100,000+ assets.
- IOTA’s products typically run at 99.99% in production.
Organisations I’ve worked with
A few of IOTA’s customers I’ve worked with, by sector. There are many more; these are some of the names you’ll know. My teams build and support the software they run.

- Government and public sector

From senior engineer to CTO, each role adding to the last
Senior Software Engineer
Added: The foundation: building and reviewing production code
I led R&D for national-scale telecom monitoring and helped build the SIEM and XDR platform.
Development Manager
Added: A team of 5 to 7 developers and one product line
I ran sprint planning, code review and releases, and mentored the team.
Deputy CTO
Added: All of engineering: 20+ engineers across 3 product lines
I led all of engineering and designed how AI fits into every product line.
CTO
Added: The business side: sales, finance, HR and admin
Every engineering decision is mine to answer for. I still develop, set the roadmap and review code, and I oversee sales, finance, HR and admin.
Each role kept everything before it, hands-on code included. The cards below cover each one in full.
CTO
Added: The business side: sales, finance, HR and admin
- Own the three product lines end to end and oversee sales, finance, HR and admin. Report to the CEO, with a written update every month.
- Five team leads and 20+ engineers report to me, across core engineering, DevOps and support, the security product, infrastructure and internal IT.
- Develop, set the roadmap and plans, review code, and give the teams working on specific areas their direction.
- Run pre-sales and sales since February 2026: customer engagements, demos, upsell and cross-sell, on site with customers.
- Brief sales and pre-sales with product walkthroughs and roadmap briefings, and check delivery plans with the PMO.
- Keep internal IT secure and stable: patching, access control, audit readiness, and infrastructure that grows with the roadmap.
- Lead the work on Trace9 AI.
Deputy CTO
Added: All of engineering: 20+ engineers across 3 product lines
- Led all of engineering: 20+ engineers across three product lines.
- Designed how AI fits into every product line: ML anomaly detection, smarter alerting and predictive analytics.
- Led company-wide AI training: prompt engineering, RAG and agentic AI.
- Lined up product strategy with enterprise accounts in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Development Manager
Added: A team of 5 to 7 developers and one product line
- Led a development team of five to seven engineers on one product line.
- Ran sprint planning, releases and release notes, and the regression testing that gated each release.
- Delivered a major Trace9 release to five enterprise clients.
- Reviewed code and set the code-review standards, CI/CD pipelines and onboarding the teams still use.
- Hired and mentored engineers, paired seniors with juniors, and ran blame-free root-cause reviews after incidents.
- Kept the codebase healthy: design records for major features, load tests before release, backward-compatible APIs and refactoring time in every sprint.
Senior Software Engineer
Added: The foundation: building and reviewing production code
- Led R&D for national-scale telecom and transport-network monitoring deployments.
- Built monitoring for OpenShift and OpenStack environments.
- Built dashboards that tell a network outage from a power outage, for infrastructure that cannot go down.
- Helped build the SIEM and XDR platform, Amygdala XDR®.
Co-Founder, Enterprise at Arlo
Arlo reads your mail, your calendar and your files, tells you each morning what actually needs you, and drafts the replies. It runs on your Mac. My part of the company is the edition an organisation can buy and trust with its data, and that enterprise platforms can add for their own customers.
- I own Arlo for Teams, the multi-tenant edition for regulated organisations.
- Enterprise product direction, commercial structure and partnerships, with go-to-market across banking, government and enterprise in the Gulf.
- The security and compliance posture: data residency, air-gapped installs, PII handling and a SOC 2 / ISO 27001 readiness path.
- An AI governance framework for agents that act inside regulated environments.
- Arlo is a paid product and has launched. The desktop app also has a free mode that runs fully on your own machine, air-gapped if you need it, on hardware with a GPU, NPU or APU.
Freelance and contract
Work I’ve built for clients directly
I have taken freelance and contract work since late 2023. For these clients I wrote the scope of work, the financial model and the process maps, then built the software: observability dashboards, data pipelines and full products. They range from fitness studios and smart buildings to web hosting, network monitoring, VR health-tech, e-commerce, an online pharmacy and security.
AI-assisted SOC console
Client under NDA
- I architected it, built its AI triage and reviewed the code. It is in production with a security company’s operations team.
- It triages alerts, mutes or blocks with one action, turns plain-English response policies into rules and writes a triage narrative for each case. It runs behind SSO with role-based access and enforces decisions at the cloud firewall.
Built with
Python (Flask)React with Elastic UIPostgreSQLRedisKeycloak SSODockerWazuhSuricataAWS Network Firewall and WAFOpenAI and OllamaNutrition app
Balantia
- I delivered it in phases and agreed the scope of each with the client: the mobile app, the admin portal and the APIs behind both.
Built with
React Native (Expo)NestJSPrismaPostgreSQLMySQLNuxt (admin CMS)DockerObservability dashboards and data pipelines
Freelance clients
- Dashboards over metrics, logs and marketing data for several clients, and the ETL pipelines that feed them.

Freelance client
- A desktop app that transcribes the video posted to Telegram channels and summarises it.

Noodle Seed
- I built for three of Noodle Seed’s clients, and the work overlapped. Spinatomy is a voice AI that calls patient leads for spine clinics, qualifies them and hands them to human coordinators; I wrote the coordinator portal.
- Fineman West is an AI accounts-receivable assistant that escalates follow-ups from email to SMS to voice. FlexiClean is scheduling for a cleaning-services company: a manager web app and an offline field app with QR or PIN sign-in, GPS and photo proof, now in production.
- I connected Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini through MCP and OAuth 2.1.
